Netherlands and into Germany

In 2014, Rijksmuseum acquired a 17th century masterpiece by Adriaen de Vries, the most important sculptor the Netherlands has ever seen. The Bacchant, once had a bronze globe on his shoulders to transform him into Atlas but this was not the artists original intent so it was removed. He was meant to be a follower of Baccus, the classical god of wine. The bottom photo shows a Stern Carving from the English Flagship, the Royal Charles, featuring the arms of King Charles 11.
